THE LATE MR. M'KENZIE.
A LARGE FUNERAL.
"A good citizen, a good churchman, a good journalist, good father, and a good man. These words were used by the Rev. Dr. Gibb in reference to the lato Mr. Thomas Wilmor M'Kenzie in a sermon at St. John's Church yesterday morning. The funeral took place on tho previous day. A short service, which was held in the morning by the Rev. James Paterson at the deceased gentleman's residence in Ghuznee Street was attended by the family and near relatives, and by the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie/representing the Government. In the afternoon a service was held in St. John's Church, when tho Presbyterian burial service was read by tho Rev. Dr. Gibb. Tho congregation, which filled tho church, was briefly addressed by the Rev. Jas. Paterson, who referred to the lato Mr. M'Kcnzio's long and honourable career and his helpfulness to the church of which he was.for 12 years an officer. The hymns "Now tho Labourer's Task is O'er" and "Oh, God, Our Help in Ages Past" were sung with much feeling. The cortege, which was a very long one, then proceeded to the Sydney Street Cemetery. It included representatives of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows and the other local Oddfellow lodges, and representatives of lodges elsewhere, among the latter Wor. Bro. W. H. R. Dale, P.M., represented Lodge Unanimity No. 3. N.Z.C., Lvttelton, and Lodge Albert Edward No. G, N.Z.C., Lyttelfon. The Masonic Lodges were also fully represented, the N.Z. Pacific No. 2, of which deceased was a member, being represented by the W.M. Bro. E. Blundell, P.G.M., Bro. Malcolm Niccol, P.M. Bro. H. H. Seaton, and other officers. Officers of other local Masonic lodges were also present, The chief mourners were deceased's sons, Messrs. Henry Alex. M'Kenzie, George A. M'Kenzie, Earl M'Kenzie, Leonard S. M'Kenzie. and John M'Kenzie, and his sons-in-law, Messrs. James Mackenzie' (Commissioner of Crown Lands), S. J. Gibbons, and H. A. Morris. Officers of the Oddfellows acted as pallbearers from the church to the cemetery gates, and officers of the Masonic Lodge's from the gates to the grave. The church burial rites were performed bv the Revs. Dr. Gibb and J. Paterson, the Oddfellows' service was also conducted, and the Masonic rites were read bv the W.M., Bro. E. Blundell, P.G.M. Bro. Malcolm Niccol, and P.M. Bro. Sealon.
Floral wreaths were sent by the Prime Minister and his colleagues, Widows'and Orphans' Society, the various local Oddfellow Lodges, Pacific lodge No. 2 (with floral Masonic emblem), Wellington Branch New Zealand Institute of Journalists, Hon. Thos. Mackenzie, Mr. J. Mackenzie, Central Pharmaceutical Society, "Evening Post" literary staff, Petone Chronicle and staff. Oriental Cricket. Club, Ifival Cricket Club, Dr. Paulke, Mrs. Thos. Whilehousc and family, Mr. P. Shaw and staff, Mrs. H. Downes, Mr. and Mrs. .-iJlrtn Maguire, Dr. and Mrs. Newman, Mr. and Mrs. 5. D. D. M'Loan (Napier), Mr, and Mrs. W. H. S. Moevhouse. Mr. .1. G. W. Ailkcn, Mr. and Mrs. .las. Mackenzie, Mrs. Paul Hunter, and very many others. The bereaved family have received letters, telegrams, and messages of sympathy from all parts of tho Dominion. At St. John's Church yesterday morning, the liev. Dr. Gibb, as mentioned above, made reference io Hie good qualities of the deceased. The organist. Mr. Maughan Barnclt. played the "Dead March" in "Saul," the whole congregation standing as an expression of esteem for (heir deceased friend and fcllow-wor-shippcr.
