RECIPROCITY.
AUSTRALIA'S TRADE WITH CANADA. i NEW ZEALAND RIVALRY, IBy Telegraph—Press Association Copyright! Melbourne, March 4. A deputation of members of the Ghambers of Commerce waited on the Federal Minister for Trade and Customs (Mr. Tudor) with regard to the questions of reciprocity with Canada and provision for Australian-Canadian trade. The president of the Chamber stated that the Postmaster-General (Mr. Thomas) might feel complacent over the discontinuance of the subsidised service for poundage on the carriage of mails. It would be cheaper, but there was a danger of New Zealand, which enjoyed reciprocity with Canada, cutting, seriously into Australian trade interest. The Federal Government might subsidise not a mail, but a cargo, service. .'Mr. Tudor promised to lay the request before Cabinet, but said he did not expect any action to' bo taken. Ho pointed out that in 1909 the export trade to Canada amounted in value to only eighty thousand pounds. Tho steamers would 6till come to Sydney, and the Commonwealth would be no worse off regarding the service.
