Leaving liytleltou' last night, the New Zealand Shipping Co.'s, s'.'.'anier Kaipara should arrive here about 11 a.m. to-day. She will berth at the Glasgow Wharf to complete loading for Home, and is cxoectcd to clear Wellington 5 p.m. on Monday. The Kaipara is taking a number of passengers, and a lari- general cargo, from New Zealand ports to the Homeland.
BARAWA'S TIME-TABLE ALTERED. Messrs. Levin and Co., local agents for Hie Northern Steamship Company, Auckland, have received advice intimating that, owing to having to blow down boilers, the Rarawa will not- leave Qnehunga for New Plymouth on March 9. Conseauently, there will be no boat from New Plymouth, connecting with the. Wellington-New Plymouth mail train, for Onehunga. on March 10. The Rarawa pirjes up her ordinary running again on Sunday,. March 12, leaving Onchuuga for New Plymouth on that date.

WITH CASE OIL FROM NEW YORK. Strathciidrick, s.s., owned by Messrs. Rurrelt.and Sons, of Glasgow, arrived ivom New York, via Auckland, at 11.5 r..m. yesterday, and berthed at the Railway Wharf, where she is discharging her .62,000 cases of oil for Wellington. From Barry the vessel took a eargo of coal ty Rio de Janeiro, and from there proceeded in ballast to Niv York After loading up with 164.000 caw;} of oil, the Strathciidrick left the American port on December 10 for tlio four New Zealand main ports, Auckland being her first port of call in the Dominion. On the run down to Durban moderate to flue weather wai experienced, the venae! dropping anchor at th? South African port on January 15. Two days later, after having coaled, she resumed her voyage. For the first two days out a strong southwest gale, with high stay, was encountered. This caused the vessel to roll and pitch a great deal, and she also shipped a good Quantity of water. Light to strong south-west winds were then met wilh till February 12, when the Strathendrick encountered a moderate gale, which proved to bo of short duration. On tho following day tho vessel iignalled Wilson's Promontory, and, from this point until arrival at Auckland on February 21, at 2 a.m., fresh to light winds and moderate sea:- were experienced. Having completed difcharge of some 54,000 cases of oil at the northern port, the Strathciidrick left for Wellington at 3.45 on February 28, and arrived as stated above. Captain 11. Brown is in command, the other ofliccrs beiug: Chief, Mr. R. Crabb: sccond, Mr. H. O. Williams; third, Mr. F. J. Fauirts. Mr. W. Skooch :s chief engineer, Mr. J. Erskine second, Mr. W. MAITAI DOCKS AT LYTTELTON. Some very quick work was effected by tho stevedorca in discharging tho R.M.S. Maitai at Wellington this trip. The vcs. sel only arrived at Wellington on Thurs-
day about mid-day, and it was decided (rather suddenly) that sho was to bo dock-, ed at Lyttelton this trip. Work wan carried on until 10 o'clock on tho night of arrival, and a start was inado again at 6 a.m. yesterday. By 3.30 p.m. the whole of tho vessel's cargo, consisting, of over 1900 tons, had been landed on the wharf, tho actual working time being about 16J liour3. The Maitai left Wellington at 420 p.m. yesterday for Lyttelton. She docks to-day and returns here to-morrow, leaving again for San Frar.ciscoon Wodneiiday next. THE -THEkISTOCLES. Tho Aberdeen Line inaugurated tho pioneer service between Australia, and England, via. South Africa, and one of the greatest events in its history is the advent of the steamer ,'Themistocles. This vessel was recently launched at tho yards of Messrs. Harland and Wolff, and left London on February 16 on her maiden voyage to Australia. She is a twin-screw steamer of 11.4C0 tons, is 516 feet over all in length, and 62 test in beam, and has' been constructed under Lloyd's survey for the 100 A 1 class, conforming also to the Admiralty Transport Department and Board of Trade passenger regulations and requirements. She is fitted.with!,wireless telegraphy and submarine sign-tiling apparatus, anil Ins accommodation for 100 first : clars and nearly 800 third-class passengers.
