SOUTH AFRICANS.

GREATj FINISH WITH NEW SOUTH WALES. SPRINGBOKS BEATEN. By TelcEi'aph-'Pross Association—Oopyrlght (Rec. March 1, 7.55 p.m.) Sydney, March 1. Tho match South Africa v. New South Wales was won by the latter by 44 runs. Rain started during tho night, and continued till 9 o'clock. The wicket was consequently soft at tho start, and tho weather was dull. A strong wind, liowover, caused the pitch to dry rapidly, and after an hour's play tho ball, was bumping badly, anil the'batsmen were continually patting down tho lumps, and throwing loose iufts of turf aside. Nourso and Faulkner, who continued their innings, were extremely careful, "play--ing most balls straight back along tho wicket, and Macartney and Massio wero unable to break through their defence. Other bowlers were similarly unsuccessful. Nourso gave his first chance at 1-19—a difficult low one in the ■ slips off Minnett. Bardsley tried hard for it, but missed. At IGO he gave a much easier chance to Collins at fine'slip off Kclloway, but this also was dropped. Next ball, however, in attempting to pull, he, tipped it high, and 1 (/ollins ran behind tho wicket and caught it. The breaking of the partnership appar-. ently had a bad effect on Faulkner, who had run to the other end while Nourso was beins caught, as ho placed liis next ball in exactly tho same way as Nourse, and Kelleway ran from fine slip, and held it. Tho partnership had lasted 212 minutes, and had yielded 318 runs. Faulkner had batted 241 minutes, and had hit 22 fourcrs. Nourse's score included 16 fourers. Tho partnership is easily a record for .the tour, tho previous best being 212 by Nourso aud Strieker in the first match at Adelaide. Sinclair and Snooko fell easy victims to ICclleway, who was rising rapidly from} tho wicket. Peglor met a similar fato a couple of overs later. Strieker, however,, stubbornly kept up his wicket, and took' 63 minutes in scaring 18 licforo ho was. bowled by MaSsie. Campbell was 3 when ho tipped Massio to Minnett at fino slip and was hold. t Schwarz showed good cricket, driving tho loose ones to the boundary. Vogler, at 2, gavo a difficult chance to Kelleway in, the slips off Massic, but was dropped. Tho score was then 430. Solnvarz scored. 12 more in good style when Vogler was' run out. Tho innings occupied 400, minutes. •

' l'he match was one of records. In the last one the' aggregate total was seventeen hundred and forty-four runs; ,Tho. previous best of the tour was the Adelaide Tost match in which sixteen hun-V dred and forty-six runs were put on. .
