Osborne, tho foreman porter at Clanham Railway Station, who was secretary of tho Walthamstow branch of tho Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, and whoso namo is so- well known in connection with tho Osborne Judgment, addressing a Liberal meeting at Walthamstow, said: "There can bo 110 liberty in the industrial world if a majority of the employees aro able to say, Tou shall join a union before you will be ablo to work, and, once in, you shall adopt tho political or religious principles submitted to you.'" What the Liberals wanted, ha added, was representation of the people. Members must be paid. Ho eulogised tho Australian system of purely industrial trade unions composed of men of all shades of politics.
