THE IRON INDUSTRY.
INCREASED BONUS ASKED FOR. (By Tclcsrarh-Prcss Association.) Christchurcli, February 28. On Monday a deputation representing tlio lani Para Iran Company, including Messrs. Duncan Rutherford (chairman) J. J. Dougall (solicitor), and Raymond Icpworlh (secretary), waited on the Prime. Minister with reference to the granting of an increased bonus to the iron industry. The sum of .£20,000 had aheady been voted for the production of 20,000 tons of pig-iron. The deputation pointed out that this was much less than was offered by the Commonwealth of Australia, and asked for an increase of bonus.
The PrJeo Minister expressed himself as entirely sympathetic with the recinest of I lie deputation, but pointed out that this whs n mailer for Parliament to decide On his return from England he would consider the matter with a view of briii"iii!! a liill before the House to aecom plish this.
The Hon. R. M'Kenzie, Minisler for Mines, expressed himself as being in .«yni]>!iI hy v-ith the views of the Prime Minister.
