PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmmton, February 28. A horse in a grocer's cart bolted in a Palmerston street yesterday, and caused some excitement, especially as :■. live-year-eld child happened to l:o seated.in tlie vehicle. After going through .several streets the trap was capsized, hut the child (as is the curious i luck of thc-o things) escap-d without hurt. The vehicle and harness, however, suffered a good deal of damage. It .seems that, while, the driver was delivering goods at a. house, tho child climbed into the cart, and caught hold of tho reins. This had tho effect of setting tho horse in motion.

Mr. fi. Bell,, manager of the "Aslilmrton Mail," is on a visit to Palmerston, He is tho guest of .Mr. I{. Jl'Nab.
The Palmcrslon Killes and Guards will be represented at the Trentliam rifle meeting next week by Colour-Sergeants Perrin and Ualxiell, Sergeant Stock, and Volunteers Griggs, Cook, and Hudson.
There was a largo attendance of members at Iho ordinary meeting of. the local Court of Foresters last evoniii!:, Jiro. Kosanowski, (,'.1!., being in the chair. The prospectus for the proposed Friendly Societies' dispensary was received, and it was decided to hold over discussion and considered till the nuartedy summoned meeting next moiidi.' I'.C.lf. lira. G. Wickenden was presented with a valuable, set of carvers by last year's Kuelirp Tournament Committee, as recognition of tho services which he had rendered to the court during winter. The prizes in connection with the last euchre tournament were presented to Bros. Gustal'sen, Smith, and Levy. ]ircs. Woir, Kosanowski, and J 'a tten were appointed to draw up rules for the next tournament. It was resolved to pay a fraternal visit to the Feildiug Court on March- 15. Two new members were initiated during the evening.

With- a view of starting a Itonmey Marsh sheep (lock at his station at Kiiaiidn'lc, in the South Island, Mr. I{. M'Nali, of Palmerston, has purchased n ram and sixty owes of this breed from Jlr. G. Short, of Feildiny.
