JAPANESE SPIES.

Mr. Watriaraa, a coloured resident of Sydney, who claims to be King of Loyalty Islands, states that !;o h.ts received a dispatch to tho ' effect that" Japanese spies arc infesting New Caledonia on tho pretence of beirtg miners. They work tho mines for a time, and then go throughout the country, surveying, and noting tho lay of the iand. 110 has written to the French Consul protesting against the presence cf the largo numbers of Japanese, as hit is persuaded they are a menace, and strongly urges the French Government to command tho Nisol Company to deport theso undesirable people.
The Consul, ho asserts, has acknowledged the receipt of the letter.
Mr. Watriama has also communicated with Sir Edward Groy> British Secretary for Foreign Affairs, with ■ reference to Great Britain coming to an understanding with France regarding the taking over of the protectorate of the islands.
