A BIG PEOJECT.
By TclcrraDU-Preps Association-CoDyrieht Buenos Ayres, February 27. The construction of dams for irrigation works in tho province of Jujuy will cost nino million dollars. Tho work will be commenced at ouc«. The Argentine Government recently sold an isolated section of railway connecting the Central Argentine and Pacific Hallways, and set aside tho .£2,300,000 received as the purchase price to provide irrigation works in the provinces of San Juan, La Roja, Catamarca, Santiago del Jistero, Saltii, and Jujuy. In those provinces there are many large tracts of land, sterile for want of water. These can be made fertile by bringing to them the vast quantities of water from the Andean rivers that now filter away into innumerable channels, until they lose themselves in tho pampas. The most extensive project of canalisation of waste waters is on tho Rio Negro, in Patagonia. The contract for this work, which alone, comprises some 2C5 miles of canals, was signed somo time ago.
