STEWART ISLAND OYSTERS.

DOES THE SEASON OPEN TOO , EARLYP Tho Stewart bland oyster season opens on February 1, and consignments begin to arrive wiljiin a day or two of that date, being brought up from tho Bluff to Lyttcltoii by express train, and thence on to Wellington'by tho ferry steamer. So'far tho oysters have been numerous enough—they arc reported to be as (he sands of tho ocean—but whether it is tho temperature combined with the timo that elapses between tho dredging and their arrival in Wellington or nut, the fact remains that the percentage of bad oysters has been large this year, and lliero lias been sonic dissatisfaction among the saloon-keepers of Wellington. One .saloon-keeper says that this state, of things is not the fault of the suppliers who get them up from Hie Bluff as quickly as possible, but he is inclined to tho belief that (lie weather' is too warm for I hem in Wellington in February, and that though it might bo quite safe down south, he considers (hi;t the Stewart Island oyster season, so far as Wellington is concerned, should open on March 1 in preference to February 1.
