PERSONAL ITEMS.
Lord and Lady Islington wore passengers from Lyttolton to Wellington by the Maori yesterday morning. They were accompanuied by Captain Shannon, A.D.C., and Miss Staplcton Cotton. Their Excellencies remain in Wellington until March 10, when they will leave forTaupo on a fishing expedition. Subsequently they will proceed to Auckland.
To-day the Frimo Minister will be in Wellington. The Hon. J. A. Millar, the Hon. Gearge Fowlds, the Hon. Dr. Findlay, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, the Hon. A. I'. Ngata, and the Hon. It. M'Kenzie will also be in Wellington to-dav. The Hon. J. Carroll is on the East Coast, but is expected back, and the Hon. D. Buddo is in kelson. The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) returned to Wellington from the south yesterday morning, looking the better in health for his trip south. The Hon. J. A. Millar, who has been for some time in his constituency at Diinedm, returned to Wellington yesterday morning. The Hon. G. Fowlds returned- from Chnstchurch yesterday. Mr. John Smith, the doyen of the City Council, who had intimated that he did not intend to stand again as a candidate for the City Council, has bad'so many requests to reconsider his decision that ho has promised to allow himself to be nominated once more. Mr. Walter Johnson has resigned the position of secretary of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association on account of the pressure of his own business. Mr. P. N. Bundle has been elected in Mr. Johnson's place.— Press Association. Mr. A. D. Kennedy, the well-known wine and spirit merchant of Featherstou Street, who has been suffering from bloodEoisoning as the result of an injury to is foot, is rapidly recovering and hopes soon to be able to attend to his business. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P., left on a visit to Australia on Friday. He will, be absent for about a month. ■ Mr. J. P. Luke, M.P,, is on a visit to the south. Mr. Robert B. Bell, manager of the "Ashburton Mail and Guardian, Ltd.," is at present on a visit to Wellington. It is understood that Mr. C. E. Nicholas, who retires from the position . of pastmaster at Stratford within the next lew days, intends to take up work in the Church of England (says the "Stratford Post"). Immediately upon his retirement he will be admitted to Holy Orders andordained by the Bishop of Waiapu, and proceed |s the parish of Dannevirko," where he will act as curate to : the Ecv. E. Robertshawe. . Mr. Joachim,-general manager for the Westport Coal Company, arrived in Wellington by the Mapourika yesterday. Lieutenant Duncan,- Millerton, ex-New-Zealand 'champion rifle-shot, arrived at Wellington •by the Mapourika yesterday.. He has come to compete at the New Zealand Rifle Association championship meeting. Included among the passengers who arrived by the Maori from Lyttelton yesterday morning were' Mr. Justice Sim and Drs. King and Harrison.'
