' Queenstown, February 21. ••The annual meeting of - the News-, paper Proprietors' Association of New Zealand was opened yesterday , morning at t-en o'clock and concluded at 11 p.m. - There was a record attendance, tho principal papers of tho Dominion being represented. Mr. -P. Selig presided;and delivered a lengthy ■ address reviewing the operations of the past-12 months. It was unanimously decided that the address should be printed arid forwarded to ' members -and newspapers. A very heavy agenda." paper was disposed of. Amongst ,other, matters the Libel and Defamation Act, the Sccret Commission Act, and welcomo to the_ Australian Provincial . Press _ Association representatives, ■ who meet in New Zealand in April, were dealt with. ■ ' A most. important ■ discussion . took place in .connection with a communication from Dr.' Alexander, of Ashburn Hall, Dunedin, -the. subject being: ,■ "Is publicity the 'cause* of crime?" . Dr.. Alexander's letter had- been forwarded to tho principal editors in tho Dominion with a request for their views. The reading of these was " a great feature of the: meeting and 'was received; with' great applause:' After discussion, it was resolved: "That this association desires to record its-very sincere thanks to ' tho editors who have given' their opinions on tho. question submitted to the. association by Dr. Alexander. Those opinions are regarded by the association to be of 'so valuable - a character, and they deal so. comprehensively- and convincingly-with the whole .subject, that fn the opinion of the association it'is 'dosirable t-hoy should be published, arid disseminated as widely as possible." To . this end it was resolved that the letters bo printed and a copy sent to each' member of the association with a view to publication ; also to Dr. Alexander and tho president of each branoh of the' British Medical . Association throughout New Zealand; further .(that a "copy of this, resolution'.be sent io the writers of the letters, together with a copy-of the letters as printed. '; It was decided to communicate with, tho Prime Minister in /reference .to the visit of. New Zealand journalists ■ to England in view of the Coronation, the Imperial Conference, and other functions.-: ' : .- ' Mr. P. Selig was unanimously reelected president. ' ' - . ' Tho other officers elected were: Vicepresident, Mr. Hyman; executive committee, Messrs. Geo. Fenwick, H. Horton, L. Blundell, F. Pirani," N. M'Kobie; secretary and treasurer, Mr.. H.
