''A ; sitting of tho Railway Appeal Board was held at Duncdin to-day to consider tho appeal of Joshua Ede, who had ,bocn employed as cleaner at Timaru, and was dismissed from tho servico for alleged failure to attond to duty. The Department held that appellant was not in tho shed from after 10 o'clock ono night, when ho should havo' been on dut.v, and that former conduct had not given satisfaction, ho having, previously absented himself without authority. Appellant admitted that during part of tho cvcning'ho wao asloop in tho engine,, but had never left tho sheds, in support of which he called witnesses. The board "intimated that it would .consider its decision. "
