Tho secretary of tho New Plymouth branch of tho Employers' Association has boon advised that tho Labour Department does not intend to interpret Section 18 of tho Shops and Offices Act to as to interfere with any partner irha may bo engaged ill his shop behind closed doors, that is to say, so long as ho is not engaged or assisting in tho sale of goods after"tho hours fixed for fissistflirtj. This is understood to bo tho outeomo of representations made by tho Employers' Federation. Tho "Otago Daily Times" reports thai it meeting of tho master butchers of Duncdin and suburbs, postponed from Monday last, is to bo held next week for tbo purpose of considering and protesting against several provisions in tho imeuacd Shous and Owccs Act.
