BIC PRIZE FOR JUVENILE , TROTTERB. ,
MELBOURNE - TROTTING CLUB'S SIRES' PRODUCE STAKES.
True to its reputation as' a liberal promoter of the-Sport of trotting, and a fenerous supporter of tho trotting orso, tho Meloouruo Trotting Club has issued another _ invitation to studmasters to - nominate their sires and mares for tho Sires' Produce Stakes event, fixed for tho year 1914. Tho competitors will bo foals. of the present year, whoso sires and dams aro nominated with tlio secretary (Mr. A. J. Gray), next Juno, and July respectively, as act forth in an advertisement appearing in this issue. Tho,conditions aro very liberal, and should command the attention of all who have stock fit to nominate. An important fact in connection with this matter is' that thoso who do nominate will in that way denotd their own confidonco in their stock, while per contra thoso who abstain will, tacitly adroit, to some extent at least, a certain want of confidence.. It, is worthy of noto also, in this connection, that young trotters tako on an added valuo by thoir sires and dams being nominated, and this is a consideration that should not bo overlooked. Mr. John Wreni the enterprising" general'manager, is pleased with the uno* nomination which ho received last year for a similar event to be run off in 1913, and ho is justified in the hope that tho stako now advertised will bo equally successful.

i NOTES AND COMMENTS,
[Br Glkncoe.T ■ ' Tho Duncdin Jockey ClubV meeting will be concluded .at.AVingatui this afternoon. Tho small fields engaged today are duo to the hard stato of .tho feoin'g: Unless rain fell last night, thero will bo still further seratchings, ns several horses liavo been paid up for in hope ;of rain. ' * It 1 Is interesting to note that Taiinbauser has started four-times at Wingatiii, mid has been successful each time. In an endeavour to brin« the other two-year-old, up to him, the handicappor put 10st. 51b' on Mr.' J. F. Buchanan's horso to-day. The gelding, however, will not be started.. In the concluding event at the Dunodin meeting on Thursday, F. E. Jones, rider of True Knight) got badly jammed on the rails, and received n nasty cut abovo the ankle. Fortunately, tho injury was not serious, and will not firevent tho Chokebore horseman from donning tho colours to-day. The North Island • jockoys attending the punedin Cup fixture have all dono well so far. and-may increase their winning ' totals further to-day. ' Iranui will contest tho Jockey Club Handicap (ono l.nilo and n quarter), at Duncdin, to-day. Tho littlo Soult maro will, no doubt, prove how costly was tlio stumble that overtook her in tho Cup on Wednesday. Trainer R. J. Mason would bo very disappointed with tho poor showing of Byron at Dunedin. In the Champagno Stakos the colt was undoubtedly beaten
on his merits, but, on the second day, it seemed as if his diminutive pilot was unablo to get tho most out of him, and, in addition, his saddle slipped back bcforo tho finish.
Amongst tlio passengers for Sydney by tho Marnma yesterday was Mr. H. Tinker, owner of Colleen Mnry. At present, Colleen Mary is enjoying n spell, as she has doveloped soreness.
Land Roso will iiguro in open company at Dunedin to-day, and will endeavour to register her third successive win. Her two previous performances havo evidently highly impressed tho handieapper. He placcs licr within 31b. of Lupulite.
Egypt (Fraternity—Eulalio), trained by A. Crawford, is said to have shown moro than average ability as a jumper. Warlock, owned by Messrs. Burt Bros., of Featherston, has been doing duty as a drover's hack through tho summer, and appears to bo thoroughly sound again. It is intended to try mm over hurdles.
Ilighdon has been turned out for a spell until such time as tho tracks become a little softer. In his receut essays, the Merriweo gelding did not bit out with any freedom. .
Revised 'weights (if any), for tho Wanganui Cup will bo declared to-day. There is a final payment for tho Cup to bo mado on Monday night.
Merrivonin is going along Satisfactorily in her preparation for tho Wanganui Cup, in which event sho will bo ridden by. A. Oliver.
Mr. C. Kingston, owner of Lamsdorff, has placed a four-year-old gelding, by Morriwee—Zaida, with G. Collello for schooling.
Miss Mischief and Vice-Admiral is the favourito combination for tho first day of tho Wanganui. meeting. Tho Jackson Stakes, which event is to 'bo decided at Wanganui next' Saturday, again promises to bo a very interesting race.
Death has been levying toll upon tho cquines at Karamu (says tho Napior ' Daily Telegraph"), for recently the Hon. J. D. Ormond has lost tho brood mares Mobility and Kimmer. Tho latter is best known as tho producer of Full Rate. His misfortune ' did not ceaso with their death, for tho colt foal by Charlcmagno (from Eona) got foul of a wiro fenco, and in his efforts to get out of tho mischief, 'broko his near foro leg. Tho injury necessitated his destruction.
Mahari, ono of tho candidates for tho Waihola Handicap at Wingatui today, is spoken of as a very promising horso.
Nominations received for tho principal events at tho Canterbury Jockey Cluo's Autumn meeting are not numerically large,, but class is well represented. The most notable absentee from tho Great Autumn Handicap is Lady Medallist. but a milo and a half is not generally considered her best distance.
