THE TEST MATCHES.
A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW. The Fourth Tost match, South Africa v. Australia,' which was tho eighteenth match of tho tour, resulted in the visitors sustaining their fifth defeat. They have so far played niuo first-class matches, winning three, 10.-iiiß five, mid drawing one. Of tho other nine matches, tho visitors won seven, ami two were drawn. - Prom tho beginning of tho tour up till tho conclusion of tho eighth match, Nourse topped tho batting averages. Then Faulkner took up the running, and kept tho position until this week. latterly, however, Nourse has been batting finely, his last eight innings producing 141, CI not out, lb', 112 not out, 24, 128, 92 not out, and 28, and this lias placed him a shade above Faulkner. As illustrating the smallness of tho difference between tho two averages, it may hero bo remarked; that if, in their next innings Faulkner scores ono more run than Nourse he will regain his ■ lato position at tho top of thn average's. FronV Nourso and .Faulkner thero is n drop in tho aggregate of nS fewer than 575 till we come to tho.nex* most prolific scorer, Strieker, and in tho average of over 27 points to that of the next best, Llewellyn. ■ • .
