Conference at ; christchurch. (By Tclctrarh-I'rcßS Association.) Christchurch, February 23. At a conference of tliose interested in the iron trade, employers and employees, representatives of various trndo 'organisations, and of members of Parliament was held to-night to consider tho proposals of a similar .conference held in Wellington towards tho end of last year, that duties of 33}' per cent, should'be imposed 'on imported ironwork and machinery. No resolution was arrived at, but; tho meeting «:as practioally-in sympathy with tho decision of the 'Wellington conference. During the discussion- tho necessity. of educating, tho farming community on tho question of supporting: New Zealand industries was'emphasised.
