EMPIRE MATRICULATION.

4 At the Headquarters' Conference recently held at Eton, Dr. M'Clure (Mill Ilill) was called on to proposo a-resolu-tion with regard to the M'Gill University. He explained that for some years entrance examinations to this Canadian University hod bc3» lipid in England. They had hithtrto .been conducted by Dr. Fry, but, as ho ;wns unable to continue the work, the Headquarters* Conference had been asked to undertake it.• Tliero wero several reasons why public school boys who desired to emigrate should wish to do their university work in the land of their adoption, "it was rather cheaner than university -training in England, and no doubt fitted • them more efficiently for their career. It would therefore, bo a great advantage if they could matriculate in England. Tho present time was one of considerable difficulty owing to the meeting of the universities of the Empire, which was to take place in 19)2, and whicli might possibly modify many of their ideas. He, therefore, moved the following resolution:— : "Tlmt we accept tho request o£ the M'Gill University to take-upon, ourselves the conduct of its entranco. examination in England, but in view of rhe fact that an Imperial University Conference is to bo held in 1912, wc would suggest that tho M'Gill University should agree to accept tho higher examination certificate for 1911, and that they should co-operato with us in drafting, resolutions (a) as to a common, matriculation examination for all universities of the Empire; (b) as to tho publication of an official' calendar for all universities, technical college?, and agricultural colleges throughout the 'Empire—all of whicji could bo laid.before'tho Imperial Conference in 1912.','•

The resolution. was dealt with in sections, and passed by tha conference.
