The - advocates of--.the inner harbour then feel at liberty to ur;;o that vessels-would bo-much totter accommodated in another place. The subject carno up for consideration at tlitj last, meeting of the Jsaniev Chamber of ' Commerce, when a livclv discussion took place. Tho chairman, Mr. C. 11. Grant, introduced the matter by submitting a seric-s of vesoltifious ns follow:—'"(1) Tljat (his chamber-considers.that tho time lias arrived when more enersetie action should bo taken to comnleto the breakwater, and with that view respectfully - urt'e upon the Hirfcour Board: (a) To continuo tho building'of tho concrete structure out of rcvenuij until such-time-as'a. ■ loan is sanctioned by tho ratepayers; (b) "to provide further wharf accommodation to enable n.t least live steamers- to ■ berth; (0) to providj sufficient wharf accommodation to enable the-loading and discharging of ships. ; t (2) That. the Harbour Board bo asked ' whether they are willing to receive a deputation from-this chamber. (3)-That if -any.' affirmative reply is received,-the committeo of this chamber arrange ' a joint meeting to discuss the matter moro fully with the board." At a' recent meeting of' tho local fire brigade it was decided to "support the idea of the Dannevirke Firo Brigade in reference to forming an association of brigades within a day s travel of each other, and to hold a demonstration in alternate years. .
