OUR ESTIMATED POPULATION. Tho estimated population of New Zealand on December .11, 1910, is given in yesterday's Gazette as 1,002,792, inclusive of Maoris, "and tho inhabitants of the Cdok and other annexed islands. Excluding .Maoris and outlying islands, tho number is 1,002,721. The total increase during 1910 was 19,795. The excess of arrivals over departures during the year was 3108, and the excess of births over deaths 10,387. The population of the Cook-and other, islands is 12,310. The number of Chineso in New Zealand on December 31, 1910, was estimated to bo 2715, of whom 78 were females. The birth-rato for tho Dominion in 1910 was 21>.2t per 1000 of mean population, and tho death-rate 9.71, as 1 against 27.29 and 9.22 respectively in 1909. Tho deaths in 1910 (9G39) were, more than tho number registered in 1909 (8959) by 680, and the rato per 1000 rose from 9.22 to 9.71. The number of marriages (excluding (hose contracted between Maoris) solemnised in 1910 is estimated at 8200, giving a rate of 8.26 per 1000 of-the mean population, against 8094 and. 8.33, tho actual number and rate in 1909.
