THE RIFLE ASSOCIATION'S COMING MEETING.
? 1I ? W me to draw a little attention to what may or may not be errors on the part of -the powers that be "? f. hor B(S Of the New Zealand Eiflo Association meeting. • • . l'irstly, there has not been at the sqnading posts for this last two meetings ?u tester. Noither' have the rifles been tested. by ; the squads No. officer. In consequence ot tnis neglect men have grown careless. Feeling, confident that no 1?" PM.Ptoco they roduce the pull of H* to. one half the • required weight olbSi—and thus compete unfairly against their fellow competitors who pre•n ?°M.° the risk. I contend feat' rifles should be tested as they were in the gdod oldVMajtini' days at the squadPpsts, arid let each squad have a weight available at each post at all times.! Secondly, .testing the rifle of th 6 man who wills the championship arid not bothering about those who finish in second and third places, etc., appears to be not quite fair. Surely, if it is necessary to test nriy* all should be'"tested. But perhaps I ani in error; this testing iriay be only a form or make-believe. Rumour hath it the rifle is not cocked when this ; final, test is applied. Thirdly* I notice on the entry form for th 6 forthcoming meeting there is a change of 15s. catering fee on accourit, I suppose this is necessarv as a lot .of men. prefer to out of camp., For years I have lived in the camp and had my meals there too. I cannot say I havo been altogether pleased with the way 1 competitors treat the caterer, especially, first thing in l the. m6rriirig. Fully 150 men will riiak"6 a bifr rush to get their food before their fellows. No body, of men can do justice to a lot-of hungry men who rush their food in that marine*. •When the attendants Are reasonable Jimo there is no fault to firid.with the food or the way it is served. Should j- racn Hvihg' in caAp be doubled this year, theii the caterers are in . for a bad time. Begardirig water supply: The water may be as good as can bo obtained, .but i There's rid getting away from that. Each year one after, the; other nnds .the same troubles one half, of* the camp are'bad with dysentery; This tipplies;to those who live in. cari)p. " :: Th6se who. are catered for,'by the . good people around . the Waco find gd6d . water everywhejre arid tho trouble does riot'exist. . '..On£;w!ord mort." I trust, I shall find the grounds around 'the sqiisdirig post, levelled this voir/ Why this little piece' of work shotild'be left undone afterrent is beyond me. By att6ridirift to this little rtiatter the execiitiv6 w'6rild. earn the thaiiks of all,the competitors. Trusting y6u will fijd siace ,to foako these few remarks lenown beforo the meeting, -77 t ani, etc., . . " -. . RIFLE SHOT.
