THE PREMIER.
SPEECH AT ASHBURTON. ' (By Telecraiili—Press Association.) Ashburton, February 16. The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Word) who arrived in Ashburton this afternoon, addressed, a crowded meeting of over 800' people at the Oddfellows' Hall, to-night on the usual lines. He spoke ior two hours and defended the Government from recent attacks. He dealt at length with the favoured position of the country, and- expounded recent legislation. At the conclusion he was accorded a hearty voto of thanks and confidence.
