MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MINIMUM PAKE CAES.'-
SATISFACTORY tramway , ■ 'Returns. A meeting' of the, Miramar .Borough Council Vas held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. Brodie, presiding. Thero were also present Councillors il'Leod, Bowie, Muir, Bell, and Richards; Referring to tho question of minimum-, faro cars, and the 'request of tho council to -run.,the 5 p.m. Lam'bton-Seatoiin, and 5.26 L:\iubton-Miraui.ar cars on, tho minimum faro- system, the city electrical engineer wrote, saying that ho ha(L' previously stated/that tho question would bo considered immediately, tho now system of running workers' cars" carao'. into force.. At-that 1 .time : the City' Councilwas cxpeoting early delivery 'of the-un-. dergear'for the .'car bodies recently completed at Newtown, and they hau . been relying'' on. these cats being \ available when the. alterations in the fares came into operation: The loss* of the'steamer. Parisiana, which had the bucks'on board, had upset his expectations, and it would probably be at least three months before any additional cars wero available- for traffic. The present car accommodation on the Kilbirnie line at 5 p.m.-was nowproving inadequate, and unfortunately there was 110 possibility of an improvement until the news cars .were available. Any attempt,. therefore, at tho present juncture to introduce the minimum faro system would'in his opinion only jeopardise tho success of a system. whiclt, if properly ■ inaugurated, should prove a boon to residents of tho borough. Whilo he realised the justification 6f.the complaints, he could riot' recommend an alteration at present..,". Referring to' junction cars, tho' engineer strongly recomipended the council, not to make "any alteration in tlieir running at--present... He .would., make arrange-, mcnts for sido route boards-bearing, tho words "Miramar and Seatoun Junction" to be displayed on cars riot running beyond the junction. The 10.46: p.m. car from Larabton to Miramar was trequently. delayed at the' Opera, House for. tho convenience of Miramar residents, but as a rule tho car was-well filled when .it got away from Conrtenay Place after such stops. It Was doubtful whether the runninj: of an .car about this time on 'Wednesday' and Saturday', nights would pay either tho borough' ori tho, city. lie was prepared, however, to arrange to runAhe .10.48„p.m. ear.on W<M-, nesday and Saturday nights "showing "Miramar" destination'to tho city boundary only, and to run an extra car from Lambton Station at 10.51 p.m. This car would go right through to Miramar. and piok •up through passengers, on tho 10.-IG car at the boundary. Should the 10.15 car get a full load of borough passengors at any-timo, it could run right through. This was the best' arrangement, he could suggest at tho present time. ■
