APPOINTMENT OF A MINISTER'S
Sir,—l was greatly surprised when I heard that Mr. Millar's toil had been appointe.d as assistant electrical draughtsman in the railway service at a salary of ..£4OO a year.' I think it is only fair that applications should have been called for the position aiid that all with the necessary qualifications should have been allowed to apply, and that the beSt man should have been' appointed. If this sort of business is allowed to.go oh. Ministers of the Crown will be able to give their own sons the. best positions vacant, arid it is very hard 16 say where it will end. I think it is high time that this sort of thing was. put a stop to.—l ani, etc., - JUSTICE. [The salary paid to Mr. Millar's son is, we believe, ,£2lO per annum,' not <£-100.]
