The right of the fire brigade :to the exclusive use of tho road while drivins to a fire is likely to come up-in connection with a claim made against the Christohuroh; Fire. Board, by a w.ho collided withi the fire pump while it was turning a corner on the way to a fire. At the meeting of the beard the chairman said that in the hearing of the case the point would.crop up. Although there was a conflict pf evidence, it liad to be admitted that the- engine' turned tho corner on its wrong side, which happeuedto be the quickest way .to the fire. The board would probably have to set up the defence that its plant could go to a fire by the shortest possible route, regardless of by-law?, traffic, or anything else. The alternative was that the brigade would have to take reasonable precautions for. the safety of those who might be'on the road.
