Bega, the veteran hurdlo racer, died on November 11 in a paddock at Towrang (Australia). Bega was the nropcrty of Mr. 'Walter T. fianiel, of tlio Gouiburn "Evening Penny Post," and was by Uargo out of n Splendour marc; Ho had a mest successful career, winning in all 54 races. Hβ was 21 years,old. Ho first started 'anions the ponies, nnd won events in Queensland, when he was allowed to compete ngaiust horses. . If is first hurdle raco was won at tho Easter Meeting at Itnndwick some years ago. Breaking down, ho was turned out for three years, and was then takeu over, to Victoria, , and won the Hurdles Doubles nt the Melbourne Cup Mooting.- putting up the record for tho two miles nnd n half for the hurdles at l'lcmington. Afterwards he won nt Willinmstown. Bcsn was again turned out, and tvrelvo months after was on Jtnndwick racecourse again, running second in the Hurdles, though carrying nn impost pf 12st. 2lb.
