A remarkably high etandard was attained, in" the , test selections played yos'terday. at Palmerston North,' when the . fourteenth .annual brass band contest was continued. : In .both A and B grades tho place of honour .was taken by a ■.'WellingJon band..; In the A grade competition the Wellington Garrison .Band- gave a faultless rendering of:tho test selection, ■and was awarded the possible total of 225 points; .The, Wanganui Garrison took Kcond place with .205 points, and. the .."Wostport; Garrison third place with .193 .points. ■ Mr."Short; who judged the corafetitions,'. states that he has never heard ner.-brass.-.band-' music anywhere than -the performance of the test selection by the .Wellington' Garrison .Band.. ... ,The Wellington Tramways Band pined first place.in,the B'grade test, with an -award of 216 out of a possible 225 points. Second place was taken by the Ashburton Band, which .gained. 198, .r.nd Gisborne City Band with. 180 camo third.
