MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr. W. G..Kiddell, 5.M.),, MAINTENANCE. Reserved decision was delivered in the case in which- William Slattery was charged with failius to.maintain his illegitimate child. Slattory was adjudged the putative father, and ordered to pay 7s. Cα. a week towards tho support of tho child until it attained tho ago of 16 years. Defendant was also ordered to pay £f) Gs'. confinement expenses,' £6 ss. 3d. witnesses' expenses,'and J?2 25.. solicitor's fee, and to find security in .£SO and one surety of £bO for compliance ..with the ordcr.-in default six months', imprisonment. Mr. A. Dunn appeared for tho complainant, and Mr. P. W. Jackson, instructed by Mr. M'Nab, appeared for the defendant. OTHES CASES. Lavington MTVilliams, a- married man, was charged with on February. 5 assaulting a female of the nee of 11 years and 5 months. On the application of ChiefDetective Broberg, accused was remanded until Wednesday next. Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon, who . appeared for MTVillia'ms, applied for bail," which was fixed at XCO and two sureties of .£3O each.; Samuel Kerr oleaded guilty- to a charge of indecency in Knipgo Avonup on Friday night, and was fined .£4, in default erio month's imprisonment.- • Charles O'Connor, alias Stewart, charged with drnnkennefS, was' fined 205., • in default «even days' imprisonment, . Edward . O'Noill, -who admitted bcinj found drunk, stated that ho had a ' ticket to Lyttclton and asked to be allowed to go there. He was ordered to remain in custody, until ho could bo placed on board tho steamer. Mary Joyce, who had been found helplessly drunk,' was remanded for a week for curative treatment. A first-offendintr inebriate, who had been admitted to bail the nievious afternoon, had to be arrested a second time, end there woro two charges egainst him on Saturday morning. For thu first offence ho was convicted and discharged, and.for tho second he was fined 10s., in default .48 hours, imprisonment. Two other first offenders ■were dealt with, ono being fined 55., with tho alternative of 21 hours' imprisonment, and the other being convicted and discharged. ,
