An English writer has been discussing the extraordinary confusion which exists with regard to party colours, with some reason, that an effort should be made to come to an arrangement by wlich the colours of each political party should be the same all over the country. Incidentally, he speaks of green as the Nationalist colours. This is quite correct, but he seems to assume that it-is the national colour of Ireland The idea is common (writes a correspondent of the "Scotsman"), but is mistaken. The national colour of Ireland is that known as royal blue. Orange nriil green arc both part}- colours merely—the latter dating from:l79S. The old national colour continues to be tho "college colour" of Trinity College, Dnblin.' Tho ribbon of St. Patrick is light blue, but this was adopted, at the institution of the Order to prevent confusion, as royal blue was already associated with the Order of the Garter.
