Tho Manawatu Horticultural Societ.vV summer show o))piicil in tho Agriculture.) l Hall on tho showgrounds tin's afternoon,' .when there was an excellent display in all the classes, though the number cf entries was rather disappointing, especially when it is taken into consideration that at this time of the year they should be very numerous; For instance, 'there was only one entry in tomatoes, when there should hnvo been at least a. score. The arrangements for the show wcio very complete, and the judging was got through and everything ready for onching tho show at tho advertised time." Mr. G. W. Keeling (hon. secretary) and Messrs. F. Mason nnd A. C. Bradfield.woro indefatigable, and on them fell tho lioto's shave of the work of the show. Tho judges were: Mr. F. W. Mayor, fruit' and' vegetables; MrMVßlack, cut blooms and. pot plants;' Mcsdames 0. H.Porritt and H. C..Mollsop,. homo industries; Mrs. J. A. Nosh, decorative classes. ,-.- . In tho foliage plants, Bradfield Bros, were the principal exhibitors, and secured most of tho awards. There .was a beautiful exhibit of sweet peas. In this class •Miss lOasther took seven firsts, and with' them secured Messrs. Cooper's trophy for most points in cut blooms. Thero ivere some beautiful blooms. Competition was keen, and tho prizes were well clistributcd. For champion cactus dahlia. F. Mason took first, and Mrs. Pvo tcok first for collection of ditithus. The prize for collection of ericas went to Mrs. Harris, who also won in many of tho singlo bloom classes. Mrs. C. R. Hewett took first for collection.-of-outdoor blooms. The show of fruit was a very fino one as to quality, but thorp should havo been more entries. Mr. J.' ■ Jones was tho largest exhibitor, and won roost, of the. awards, including".'collection "of 'three' ■varieties of apples, and second-in several other classes.•• Messrs. -IV.Mason, P.; J; Nathan, W. Day, W. B. Ellis, and J. Whitehead successful exhibitors. Tho vegetables were a fair display, taking them all round, especially considering the very dry weather. Mr. J.> Whitehead hhd some very fino exhibits, and secured the greater portion of the awards. Mr. F. Mason nnd Mr. Ray Whitehead were also very successful exhibitors. Tho collection for schools was won by tho Kelvin Grove School, with n n ; co exhibit, and that in tho open class by Mr. Goring Johnston. There was not much competition in tho homo industries classes, but the miality was excellent, Miss Jickcll and Miss Green being the largest prizewinners.' Pot plants were a rather small class, as was also the decorative classes. In the latter, Mrs. li. A. Abraham pp' cured, first prize for table decoration. In tho thro" different classes for bowls of (lowers, Mrs. L. A. Abraham and Mrs. H. C. Mellsop.took first awards.
