A battle toot place between tho Federal troops and tho insurgents near Juarez. Nono wore injured. After a fierco fusillade for fifteen minutes tho Federal troops fled beyond range. The Federals are now occupying Juarez, and tho insurgents' position is unchanged. They aro awaiting reinforcements in order to attack Juarez. JACK LONDON AMONG THE INSURGENTS. New York, February 8. Tho Paris correspondent of tho, New York "Herald" states that Mr. Jack London is leading a band of insurgentl!. The Mexican Government is protesting to • Washington, fearing that his example will be followed by other Americans, who should bo prevented from crossing' the border. , Jack London, who is well-known by reason of his many literary publications, was born at San Francisco in 1876. His career ha 9 been a varied and interesting one, included in the category of tho various callings ho has followed being those of sailor, goldminer, tramp, writer, lecturer, Socialist, and journalist. His appetito for adventure has led him to journeyings in many parts of the world, among his most recent being his entry upon a seven years' cruise around the world in tho fifty-foot ketch rig yacat The Snark in 190 G. .Illness caused the abandonment of this venture at Sydney, where Tho Snark was sold.
