Replying to members Mr. Hortzog, Minister for Justice, stated that the reports of assaults >on. the Kami hnd been exaggerated. The Government did not intend to instruct tho judges to inflict tho death penalty for attomptod assaults. Five thousand people attended a meeting of the Wanderers' Club at Johannesburg. It was resolved that the honour of white women must bo protected and that the penalty for attempted rape should be death. Increased police protection was imperative and tho gradual elimination of male -natives as domestics was most essential. : Details regarding the Pankalonga outrage showed that tho native camo to the door pretending to bo o messenger. He forced admission and seized the lady of the house. A desperate strugglo resulted. The lady finally freed herself and procured a revolver and shot her assailant dead. . '■ '■
