GREYTOWN. Tho Greytown Borough Council, at its meeting on Monday evening, granted permission to-Mr.-C. Amos to break un Barrett's Line to lay down a pipe, it was resolved to endorso a' land transfer plan showing Maxton's Road, at the end of Udy Street, on Mr. Maxton erecting a fence on tho line of road. Mr. W. A. Hutton was granted a lease of the old Institute at ,£2G per annum. The Chief Health Oflirer notified the council that infections diseases would be dealt with by the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board under tho new Act, but reouested that the council should still act for a short time. A complaint was made about certain horses roaming about on the road n't Ahikouka. The ranger was instructed to see into the matter. Tho Works Committee reported that several roads required slight repairs. Tho I'inanco Committee reported bank account, debit, .£192 19s. fid., with accounts amounting to .£231 Bs. lOd. to pay. A discussion took place as to the duties of firemen when on duty at the Town Hall. The matter was put off till next meo'iug. ' Owing to tho absence of the Mayor, Councillor Trotman acted as his deputy.

. Iho cold weather of the last two or three days was yesterday replaced by a nice.sunny day. The.rain that we have had has been very heavy and of great benefit to farmers generally.

WOODVILLE.

There was a very good attendance of children at tho reopening of tho schools on Monday. Having been examined prior to their breaking-iiii, Monday was.a,busy day, with both teachers and punils, placing them in their respective classes and securing their new books. The attendunco at the Papatawn 1 School has sn increased that an extra teacher was nreessary. ami Miss Lowinau was secured. The Woodlands Ifoad School was unable to hold its annual picnic at breaking-up time, on account of sickness,' but they purpose having it one day this week. Mr. Sfubbs, who lias been, on the railway stafl' here for a ;?ood number .of years, has got orders to transfer. Ho will be missed from the Anglicon Church Choir, of which lie has been an active member. At a meeting ot the Dfmiain Hoard, Mr. .1. Harris was granted six mouths' leave of absence on account of his projected trip Home. It was decided that tho members of the board should J'isit tlio domain to inspect the same, nnd ascertain the best method of spending the funds in hand.
