The exceptionally long spell of drf weather the Auckland province has having has left the country in a very parched condition, and if-rain doe 6 not come along soon it is quite possible the disastrous. fires of three years ago which.were so severe in "many,pats of the province, and particularly Jn the Waimarino, will'be repeated. At this time of the year, the settlers are busy burning off ; their clearings, aid the fires have been'making a .cleaner sweep of .things than usual. The marked instance of the excessive dryness is to be found on the swamp between Ruakura Junction and'MorrinSvillo. As a rule, this is a sopping but for several days it has been on fire, and yesterday the Rotorua express passed through a wtll of smoke in this vicinity. Bush fires are Taging in many of the country distiicts surrounding Auckland, big blazes being,reported from 'the Wat* takerei ranges. , •
