—: e IBy Telegraph—Vrcss .Association.' Auckland,. February 4. Replying to a deputation this morning, Sir 'Joseph' Ward said his sympathies were in accord with his'laudable work of tho Victoria League, but while JEIOOO was voted last session for the restora-' Hon of the graves of old soldiers he wanted a definito scheme for the sys-' tematic and- proper upkeep of the graves in all part? of the Dominion. .He was prepared to authorise the expenditure of. a portion of the vote for the- erection of a monument in Auckland to the memory of the officers aud men of the Imperial and colonial forces who fell in tho Maori war. If a similar. amount were raised locally that would' loave £900 for the graves,' and if that vra's insufficient and the work was being carried on properly, another w&100 would be forthcoming.
