$ To-day the Prime Minister will arrive in Wellington; tho Hon. 6. Fowlds, tho Hon. Dr. Findlay, tho Hon. D. Buddo will als-j be in Wellington; the Hon. J. Carroll and Mr. Ngata are on the East Coast; tho Hon. .T. A. Miliar is in Dunedin; ami the Hon. T. Mackenzio will be at Falmcrston and Fcilding.
The Hon. T. Mackenzio went north yesterday with the Scottish Agricultural Commissioners. With them, ho will also attend the Feilding Show.
The Hon. It. M'Kenzie was at Hamilton yesterday. To-day ho will •bo at Cambridge, at Frankton to-morrow, and ho will reach Wellington probably on Thursday.
Mr. F. C. Hay, Assistant Engineer of tho Public Works Department, Wellington, has been notified of his success in tho Associate membership examination of the Institute of Civil Engineers.' He, in fact, secured the highest place. Mr. W. L. Moore; consulting engineer, Wellington, also passed tho examination.
Mr. T. H. Evans, superintendent of tho A.M.P. Society (Industrial Department), left last night by tho Mokoia to assumo his duties as superintendent for the company at Napier. Mr. Evaus has been associated with the company for the last five years in the Wellington district.
Admiral Sir William Kennedy (retired), who has teen trout fishing at Taupo, passed through Wellington on Saturday. He had a delightful time at the lake, and reports excellent' sport.
Mr. A. G. Millington, of the Tourist Department, who has been relieving in Sydney, returns to Wellington by the Warrimoo to-morrow.
Sir. Bisset, editor of the publications of the Department of Agricultnre, has been ill for some time, and is at present in a private hospital in Wellington.
Mr. C. J. Reakes, Chief Veterinarian, head of the live stock division • of the State Department of Agriculture, has obtained the degrees of Bachelor of Veterinary Science, and Doctor of Veterinary Science of the Melbourne University. Mr. Reak.es's success will be regarded with pleasure by the whole of tho agricultural community of the Dominion, by whom ho is recognised as a ■ thoroughly capable officer, and esteemed for his personality. •
At the Supreme Court, Palmerston North yesterday morning, Sub-Inspector O'Donovan, who has been promoted to the rank of.inspector and transferred to Southland, • was congratulated by Mr. Justice Cooper, Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M. for the district, and Mr. C. A. Loughnan on behalf of the Bar. his work as a police officer also being highly eulogised.
The Venerable Archdeacon. Harper, vicar of Timaru, who is now in England, has written resigning his position ns from December 31 next. He is returning to Timaru about the end of May. The Vestry will hold over consideration of the matter till his return. Tho Archdeacon is now in bis 78th yearPress Association.
Mr. John Hunter definitely nimounces his decision to contest tho Masterton seat as a straight-out Government candidate at next election, states a Press Association t'Elegram.
Mr. W. H. Parsons, of Devonport (and formerly of Wellington, who recently resigned the position of choirmaster at Holy Trinity Church, Devonport, after four years' service, was tho recipient of a handsome presentation from the parishioners at a "social" held in tho Stanley Bay Hall.
Mr. Haunui Tawhiao, son of tho late King Tawhiao, and a brother of the present Iving Mahuta, is a possible candidate for the Western Maori electorate at the next election, as a supporter of the present Government.
There passed away at Auckland on 1 hursday in the person of Captain Wil--Imm Inrquhnr 0110 ivlio had boon intimalely associated in tho shinning of Auckland for many years. The" deceased, who was commodore of tho Northern Steamship Company's fleet for 30 years was born at Peterhead, Scotland, in 183 c' went to sea at the early ago ol' 13 years and served on various brigs in Home and Australian waters. In IS6S ho left Melbourne for Auckland, and 011 arrival joined the schooner Falcon, from which he was transferred to the steamer Duke of Edinburgh, which traded in tho Thames, JVhangarei, and Bay of Islands. On tho formation of the Auckland Steam Packet Company, deceased was appointed to the Ifojal Alt red, thbn in the Thames and Loromandcl trade. Ho was succc='ivelv on the Star of tho South, the lona (ill command), and the Gle'nelg. When tho Northern Company purchased the steamer Wellington ho was put. in command, and remained 011 her for two years. When the Clansman arrived in ISSi he took charge of her, and in ISM ho was sent Home to bring out the Wakatere. In 1597 ho brought tho Bellinger across from Hobart, and then resumed command of the, Clansman, in which vessel he picked up a. large number of survivors from the Elingamite, which was wrecked at the Three_ Kings in 1902. Two years aco Captain Farquhar assumed the position of marine superintendent for tho Northern Company, which ho held for a year. Deceased is survived by a widow and seven children.
