A RE-UNION OF JOURNALISTS.

—. . ■ ITR. J. BARR ENTERTAINED. Local./and-.,visiting newspaper men enjoyed a pleasant re-union at the Hotel Windsor on Saturday evening,-when Sir. John Barr, ' sub-editor of, the "Sydney Bulletin" and president, of the New South Wales. Institute of Journalists, was entertained at dinner hy members of the local hranch of tho New Zealand Journalists' Institute. . The .occasion was seized to invite the presence of.other visiting journalists who happened, to bo in Wellington at the timo—several of whom wero present. ' Members, of tho lon.il branch attended in strong force, and Mr. FredEarle,. president of the New Zealand Journalists' Institute, was chairman. A number of letters and telegrams wero received, conveying apologies fornon- ittnndance and greetings to the principal guest of;the'evening. The toast of "Tho King" having been duly honoured, tho chairman proposed tho health of tho guest of the evening, assuring Mr. Barr that his progress' towards the important position he now filled had been followed with keen' interest and all imaginable pleasure,by his old comrades -in Wellington. The toast was enthusiastically honoured. - Mr. Barr, in respond-, ing, touched in a humorous vein upon his early days in Wellington. Having thanked his hosts for the welcome accorded him, MK Barr ' spokebriefly upon a subject which he described as of the utmost importance to Australasian journalists. lie detailed, the ' principal ' considerations which had : induced Australian working journalists .to seek registration of their organisation ■ under the Federal Arbitration. law.. Possibly nothing of this kind might be attempted in New Zealand, but Australian members of tho institute hoped at least to secure a measure of reciprocity with their brethren in Now Zea"The New Zealand Institute" was toaster! by Mr Corbett, of the Sydney " Daily Telegraph," and Mr. J. J. Grealish (vice, president) replied Mr. C. Earle propped the health of "The Visitors." Brief responses wero made by Messrs. Barr, Corbett, Bums. Mills, and Smith. The health of "'1 he Chairman" was drink at the call of Mr, J Barr. Songs were given at interval's bv Messrs. ■ Drew. Plimmer, Schwabe, and M'Kinnon, ant!'" Mr. Levy contributed a pianoforte polo. The gathering was concluded by pinging "Auld I.ang R.vno," and cheers for the guest of tho evening.
