There was a bite of winter in the air Yesterday. Coming after the calm hot Weather of'a week ago, the keen, southerly breeze and occasional showers of Saturday night and yesterday morning mails a "strong nnd'not over-welcome contrast. Fires wore requisitioned in many households, and not' a few allowed their thoughts to dwelt on the prospect.of an early winter. Such anticipations will, lio "doubt, easily be ousted by a few warm days of temporarily obscured summer conditions. Jlr. Wilson Fritch, the American lecturer, addressed a gathering of fair dimensions in the Opera House last evening. Speaking on tlio subject, "How wo •'know God," Mr. Fritch delivered an impressive address,' and was accorded throughout an attentive bearing.
