ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
. ft SUDDEN DEATH. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Mastsrton, February 3. Miss Mary Cleaver, between 25 and 30 years of age, was taken ill when /proceeding to the Masterton railway station to-day. When sho arrived at tho station her condition became alarming, and Dr. Cowie was summoned. On arrival of tho doctor, tho young woman was dead. No cause can bo attributed for her death. An inquest will bo held to-morrow.
' A SAVAGE SHEEP DOG. (By Telcsrapn—Press Association.) Dargavillo, February 3. A little girl, aged seven, named Har-, ley, was badly bitten by a sheep dog yesterday. The animal was beaten off, but again attacked tho child, who was severely injured about tho legs, and arms, the liesh under the armpits and on the body being very badly lacerated. Tho dog belonged to the house. BODY FOUND. Christohurch, February 3. Constable Whatman, Little River, reported yesterday that the body of a man had been found in a creek at Little River. In tho pockets were papers marked "A. Hayden," also a letter signed "Labatt, Labour Agent, Christchurch," in which it was stated that there was work for tho receiver of the letter at Holmes's, Pigeon Hay. There was no money in tho pockets. MINER INJURED. Westport, February 3. A miner named Archibald M'Guinness sustained a fractjrcd leg and bruises to his body and head at tho Westport Coal Company's Millerton mine to-day through a sprag coming away and allowing a fall of coal to take place. SEVERELY BURNED.. Mabel Gertrude Auld, nine years of age, residing at Johnsonville, was admitted to the. hospital last night suffering from rather severe burns. It appears that tho littlo girl went to light the lire yesterday, and was pouring kerosene on it when an explosion occurred and -set fire to the child's clothes. The result was that sho was badly burned about tho left eye, the left arm, the side, and tho chest.
