Owing to tho failure of the compulsory conference convened by tho Federal Arbitration Court to deal with tho builders' and labourers' troubles, serious developments are feared, involving tho building trades in tho bulk , of the States. Both sides are very determined. FIRE BRIGADE UNION. Melbourne, February 3. Tho Metropolitan Fire Brigade, following tho example of the Sydney Brigade, lias formed a union, with the object of obtaining hotter hours and wagos. PRINTERS' LOCK-OUT. , London, February 2. Tho lock-out of printers affects tha Typographical Association of Manchester, with a membership of 22,000, and tho Scottish Typographical Society, with a membership of "iCOO, besidea several small unions. (Rec. February 3, 8.55 p.m.) London, February 3.. The Board of Trade is mediating in tho printers' ' dispute. A coaferenos was opened to-day and adjourned.
