MARINE CASUALTIES.
STEAMER FOUNDERS. TWENTY-TWO, LIVES LOST. Madrid, February 2. Adi'ices from Sagunto, on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, report that tho steamer Lcpanto foundered. Twenty two persons perished. TI-IE EASTERN. Brisbane, February 3. Continued heavy weather is interfering with the attempts to float tho steamer Eastern, aground on Salamander Bank, and to salvo tho cargo. Four tugs, assisted by tho Eastern's own engines, tugged for four hours, . but failed to move the vessel. The steamer's position is now considered serious. (Rec. Feb. 4, 1.15 a.m.) Brisbane, February 3. Tfne Eastern is still aground, four tugs and a dredge being in attendance. Tho weather is getting rougher, and the passengers' luggage has been, landed. THE AOTEA'S CARGO. Sydney, February X Tho Underwriters' Association lias been advised that about two thousand tons of sound cargo has been salved from tho Shaw-Savill liner Aotea, ashore at Mouille Point, near Cape Town.
