Thomson, M.P., and first llliodcs scholar for New Zealand, has boeu invited by Dr. Mawscm to join the Australian Antarctic expedition, as geologist. Mr. Thomson was appointed geologist for Captain Scott's expedition, hut owing to pulmonary trouble lie was forced t-o relinquish the appointment. During three months' stay at Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, however, he made a very rapid recovery, and is now engaged in "geological field work in the Horse ranges near Palmerston. He is unable at present to decide whether he will accompany Dr. Mawson.
