MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M.) A NEIGHBOURS' QUARREL. A result of a neighbours' quarrel in Binham Street was the hearing of several .cross-antions yesterday afternoon. 11. G. Smith proceeded against Mrs. Simmons for using indecent language, and Ada Smith, wife of the first complainant, proceeded against Mrs. Simmons on tho same grounds. Albert Simmons sued Ilarry Smith for (1) using indecent language, and (2) for assault on the said Albert Simmons. Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon appeared for Mr. and Mrs. Simmons, and Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for Mr. and Mrs. Smith. After hearing tho evidence, the magistrate stated that ho was satisfied that some bad language had been used on both sides. Airs. Simmons, for using indecent language to H. G. Smith, was , fined 205., with costs 75., and solicitor's fee £1 Is., in default seven days' imprisonment. H. G. Smith, for using indecent language, was fined 205., with costs 175., witnesses' expenses 165., and solicitor's fee £1 Is., in default seven days' imprisonment. The other informations were dismissed. HEAVILY FINED FOR ASSAULT. George Mallinder, au old man, was charged with on February 2 assaulting Phyllis Ferraro. He pleaded guilty. According to the police report there wero no previous convictions against accused. The assault had been committed while the woman Ferraro was helplessly drunk, and tho result might easily have been more serious. A fine of £5 was imposed, accused being ordered to pay ±!i lb. medical fee. Default was fixed at one month's imprisonment, and accused's request to be allowed timo to find the money was refused. AN ARRIVAL FROM AMERICA. George Cobb Hewit, a young man recently arrived from America, pleaded guilty to a chargc of wilfully damaging a pane of glass, value 7s. Gd., the property of Kate Marsh. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of using obscene language in North Street oil February 2. For the first offence ho was fined •10s., ordered to pay 7s. Cd. towards tho damage, and 12s. for witnesses' expenses, in default seven days' imprisonment. On the second charge a fine of 40s. was imposed, the default being seven days' imprisonment. OTHER CASES. Ernest Hadloy was charged that on January 14 ho allowed a horse to wander, and also that on January 14 lie used threatening behaviour in Ingostre Street. Defendant did not appear, but sent written admission of his guilt. On tho first charge he was fined 205., with costs 135.,, in default seven days' imprisonment. On tho second cliargo he was fined 405., with costs 135., in dofault seven days' imprisonment. Thomas Walsn, who did not appear, was charged with using.threatening behaviour'in Ohiro Road on January 6, and with using obscene language in a tramcar going to Brooklyn on tho same dato For, tho first olfenco ho was fnjed 405., -with costs 75., in default fourteen days'. imprisonment, and for using tho language .complained of ho was fined £3, with .costs" 135., and witness's expenses 65., in default fourteen days' imprisonment.

Robert Walker, charged with disorderly conduct.. while, drunk, was fined 40s. ,• in default 'seven, days' imprisonment. Tho sann accused pleaded guilty to using indecent language, and was fined a further 405., with tho alternative oi seven days' imprisonment. Maud Annie - Sales, alias Jl'Neil, charged- with drunkenness, was fined 55., in default 24 hours'- imprisonment. A first-offending inebriate, who did not appear, was. ordered to forfeit his bail of 10s., or undergo 24 hours' imprisonment. Four other first offenders wero fined os., with the alternative '* of 24 hours' imprisonment. A female first offender was convicted imd discharged, and another female, first offender "was remanded for a week for medical treatment. . ..

Patrick Ruddy, charged with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, was fined 40s.,'with costs 75., and witness's expenses 45., in default seven day's imprisonment. A prohibition order was issued againt John Weldon, to take effect.'for one year. . ■ For discharging firearms in Brooklyn without first obtaining permission from the City Council, Charles Furness i was fined 20s , with costs lis. For riding a bicycle after dark without a light, Arthur M'Dowell was fined os., with costs 7s.
