Lebeccio was the only withdrawal ffoni the Hack Hurdles. The Sou'-westor—Gir-' ofla gelding, who competed in tho hurdles on tho first day, sustained,injuries while galloping round the jiaddock over-; night and.was destroyed, i'or some reason or other Waikaraka, the first day's winner, ,was' neglected. Millennial and Hibstone Pippin carried tho bulk of the money. The latter led throughout'and won' easily. Ribstone Pippin made his first appearance at the f'oxton meeting and is a well-bred gelding by Diplomatic —Apple' Woman, and was bred in -New South Wales. H. In connection with the Arthurs' Pass tunnel labour dispute, a conference was held last night between Mr. M'Lean and several union officials, thoso present being Mr. Scmplo (organiser of tho New ijealand Federation of Labour), Mr. Webb (president of tho federation), Mr. Armstrong (secretary of-the- West Coast General Labourers' Union), and Mr. Princo (local secretary of the union). ■ • The conference, which was a private one, was held at Mr. M'Lean's house, and lasted for about three hours.
