TERRIBLE EXPLOSION AT NEW YORK.
SEVEN KILLED AND SEVEN FATALLY INJURED. THE WHOLE CITY SHAKEN. SEVERAL MEN BLOWN INTO THE HARBOUR. By I'elccraph-Press Assoeialion-Copyrtelit. (flee. February 3, 1 a.m.) New York, February 2. A quantity of dynamite exploded at. a New York suburban pier, seven men being killed and seven fatally injured. Fifteen are at present unaccounted for. The whole city was shaken. A lighter, which was loading the explosive, vanished utterly, and a second lighter sank, two of the crew being drowned. A British barquentine was stripped of her rigging, and some sailors were killed on deck. ■ A second car filled with dynamite had its roof blown off, but the dynaruito did not explode. ' A hundred foot of the pier end was demolished.. An engine-driver was blown off the footplate and killed by the fall, and several men were blown into the harbour, but were rescued.
