OYSTERS.
LOCAL BED ABANDONED. At a- meeting of Wellington oystei saloon-keepers and ; fish-nierchants, , held yesterday afternoon, it was agreed that tho old oyster-bed at Evans Bay should be abandoned, and that all oysters re-, tailed.in.. Wellington .this year should be obtained from the Bluff. Supplies will be dispatched daily from the southern port by express train to Lyttelton, whence they will be' brought, on. to Wellington by the ferry steamers.' The oysters will be retailed, under this arrangement, two daj'S after being taken from the beds, at the Bluff. As the item of freight will be heavy, it was agreed, at yesterday's mectipg, that the retail price should in. future t» sixpence per dozen for unopened oysters, and ninepence per dozen, for opened oysters in bottles. As against the increase in price, the public will be enabled to obtain fresh oysters daily. The first shipment under the new arrangei meat will arrive to-morrow morning.
