\ SUCCESSFUL EVENT. FINE DAY AND A .GOOD CROWD. '/'■.■. /.. ■■■ .'■» — T~r ' .'."'■ The'fifth Jnnual show-of the Horo/rhenuaA. and P;.Association was , held . on the racecourse' at Levin yesterday. The .'■ K-eather'was line, and a'good attendance : patronised the grounds. '. • } The■ arrangements were well-carried , out,' and there-was ample evidence that 'the , officials wore'genuinely enthusiastic. Mi.B. R. Gardeuer,, the secretary had everything .well organised,- and business ■ was dispatched with pr.dniptitude. Ihe •oroTamme was a varied compilation, and untamed: things.ot for' those whose interest was not entirely ..wrapped up, in- stock'* Among-these were pony races and a motor bicycle race. , Ihe pre--1 pence of a: .number of the State cattle enhanced, the exhibition. The show was formally, opened by the Hon. George I'owlds, Minister for Education;- who.said that-the-performance ot ■the■•■ ceremony afforded him very great pleasure. Too Hon. Thoinas Mackenzie, . he'continued, had.': had ;to go south on important' public business,;.arid had asked the speakor .to: represent him on this occasion. The show was one which had <mite"a reputation, and he'.was pleased, ■■■ therefore, .to have; an opportunity of seeing it. This- was,' of'courße, among the-greatest ■ attractions cf tho'showi The:exhibit comprised pedifrae Hdlstein cattle, a Jersey" bull, crossred dairy:. cattle, .and-Berkshire pigs. The. Holstein,bull,..which,;vas purchased from Mr.- -Newton-.King, of .New Plymouth.'.was .shown in-good Settle. Three v of his'progeny, are'.reported to be yeild-: gallons of' , mjlk a-.day with a 4.0 s test.. Wer.eroa a purebred Jersey, originally from Mr'. , Strang's herd, was also shoivn. His dam is credited with a ' test of over 6.0. Three heifers, which resulted through; crossing , a Holstein bull and ordinary, dairy were said to have , yielded '.last week *as' follow:—Ettie, 3031b:;-Nellie, 2611b:; Sweop, 2811b.
