Successful picas for exemption from ssrvice at tho present criminal sessions ' of tho Supreme Court were advanced yesterday by a number of jurors summoned to attend. Two men succeeded in getting off on the ground that they were deaf, another was exempted because ho was a shopkeeper and had no one to leave in charge of the shop, and a fourth, an employee of a largo wool firm, was allowed to stand down as a result of representations mado by his general manager that the wool season was at its height and the State had' already secured the services of 'one of the firm's employees from the same department for service on the present jury.
T,ho following prisoners will be brought up 'for sentence during the present sittings of the Supreme Court:—Herman H. Groll, alias Foley, breaking and entering and theft; Percival George Hester, breaking and entering.and theft; Jas. M'Lean, false pretences; Sidney Herbert Hansen, theft of a horse; Frederick Wm. Jones, alias "Judy* Jones, forgery and uttering:

The Wellington police have received an inquiry from lirisoane as to the whercabinits of Joseph Raymond 'Smith,, formerly of Gynipie. He is believed to have left Brisbane on January 7 for Wellington, via Sydney. Thero is some information awaiting him if he will call on SubInspector Norwood at the Lambton Quay Police Station. /
Speaking to a reporter yesterday Mr. Kenner, secretary to the Patea Shipping Company, said that his company was not inconvenienced in any way by tho fact that a section of the men at Fatea were refusing to work their boats. An instance given by him to show that such was tho case ivos that on Monday last during 15 working hours, two boats belonging to the company handled 200 tons of general cargo outwards and 2300 crates of cheese inwards. In regard to the men employed in working the vessels at Wellington Mr. R-enuer stated that, up to the present, his company had had no trouble, and everything was working smoothly.
Big gun shooting was continued at Fort Dorset last evening by the AVellington Navals. The service tests will commence to-day. This evening the Commandant of' the Forcav (Major-General A. F. Godlc-y, C.8.) will visit the camp and stay overnight in order to witness the class-firing to-morrow morning.
The valedictory meeting to Colonel and Mrs. Knight will take place this evening in .the Army Citadel, m Vivian Street. Prior to this meeting the officers of the district will assemble in council with their departing leaders. Colonel and Mrs. Knight-and family leave by tho Jlarama on Thursday, en routo to Melbourne, where the colonel will take up his new duties as Principal of the Army's Federal Training College. Major and Mrs. Rowley, the new young people's secretaries for the North Island of is'ew Zealand, arrived in Wellington last week. Tho major leaves almost immediately for Auckland, to accompany Colonel Horskins, a visitor from Australia, on an evangelistic tour i of tho island.
