The land for fhe r Jias to to fairly level, and- the conyehienco is made much use of on tho'flats "and tho terraces. Thore is a good deal of land in Southland which specially needed the drain-plough, and could not very well have been'drained without it on account of the cost. It is expeditious, whereas other methods are expensive and slower. iThe improvement ; through draining has : been-considerable, especially on sour land."
