SCALDED TO DEATH.
SHOCKING FATE OF THREB ' MEN. PINNED BENEATH AN ENGINE.. (By Telesrauh—Press Association.) Blenheim, January 30. News from Havelock states that a loco«, motive at tho Opouri Sawmill, Nydia Bay, left the rails, and ran into a stump, Tho impact completely destroyed tho. engine, and three men were killed, and . two others severely injured. Later. ■■ Further particulars regarding' tho fatality at Nydia Bay on Saturday show thatfive men, named John Corliss, William. O'Brien, George Anderson, Climo, and. Birso (tho driver), were on board the. locomotive, drawing a load if logs down a steep incline, when the engine got away, and, leaving the rails, crashedinto a stump.
Hires of the unfortunate men—Anderson, Corliss, and O'Brien—were pinned, beneath the engine, and scalded .to death.
Climo and Birse were thrown away, from tho engine, and escaped with severe injuries. They were immediately taken, to Havelock Hospital, where tho bodies, of the dead were also conveyed.
